Introduction to Bookbinding

Never made a book before but always wanted to try? This one-day workshop will teach you the skills and techniques to start making your own books and pamphlets. We will make six different book structures that you can use for gifts, small notebooks, journals, or art projects. No experience is necessary, and all are encouraged to join in.
Instructor: Andrew Huot has been binding books and making artists books since 1990. In addition to working in book repair and restoration he has taught workshops and classes throughout the Northwest for such organizations as the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) in Portland, Portland State University, and the University of Oregon Craft Center. Andrew is the former Chair and is a current board member of the Northwest Chapter of the Guild of Bookworkers.
Mixed Media Collage

Mixed Media Collage is an exciting art form creating individualized art pieces from scraps of paper, fabric, found objects and paint. Several imaging transfer techniques will be taught using household products, as well as a new heat transferring method. Simple non-toxic gold leaf methods will be demonstrated. A three-dimensional component will also be explored using distressed Altoid tins or cigar boxes. Repeat students are welcome as there will be new topics and techniques this time around!
Instructor: Susan Lehman has been a practicing visual artist and art instructor for over thirty years. She lives in Bandon and has her art work at three galleries in the area. A formally trained artist, she studied at CA. College of Arts and Crafts. Susan just recently finished teaching a collage workshop at the Coos Art Museum.
Spotlight on Still Life

Time: 9:00am to 3pm Prerequisites: Student should have good drawing skills.
Cost: $50 - - Registration Deadline October 17
Start where you are, whether a beginner or experienced oil painter. Through demonstration and easel side critiques with painter John Holdway, students study the art of oil painting. Develop your drawing skills and explore the ins and out of the medium.
Students will work from still life in class, using the alla prima technique, which means, “At the first.” A painting is finished fairly quickly working wet into wet. Students will move through the painting process of drawing, wash in, form painting and final details. Students will learn tips to develop speed and accuracy.
Instructor: John Holdway has been in numerous single and group exhibitions regionally and across the country including Beauty Revisited at Mt Scott Art Center in Portland, 15x15 at the Decker Gallery in Baltimore and the Eugene Mayor’s Art Show. He is represented at Opus6ix Gallery in Eugene and Bella Perla Gallery in Portland. He earned a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
