Art Walk Brings Over 300 to DIVA. America Corp Volunteers greeted over 300 visitors to DIVA on the May 5th Art Walk. Handing out the new Centers guide to exhibit and news events, visitors enjoyed five new shows within the DIVA Galleries.

Miriam Jordan, Executive Assistant and Special Events Manager of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, hosted the event and featured art discussions in both Spanish and English. The sidewalks of downtown were filled with pedestrians who visited, in addition to DIVA, the "Show Me the West Eugene Wetlands” photo exhibit at the public library; an exhibit of student work from the Network Charter School at M.E.C.C.A. & Network Charter School; a mini ARTFest; and finally a stop at the Tango Center, featuring a tango performance, a short dance lesson. |

OCCF Grant Request. DIVA has submitted a grant request to the Oregon Commission for Children and Families. The request for $2,500 is for a downtown mural project. The project would involve some street youth, particularly those 10-16 years old approximately. We would enlist a mural artist to help the youth plan and implement a mural on a downtown wall or on panels that can be installed in windows on empty downtown buildings. Benefits for the youth would include learning to cooperate with an expert and each other to plan and implement a big project.

« Painting by Jean Denis
Outside In features Jean Denis' portraiture style of expressing the individual beauty and truth of her subjects – people, trees, landscapes, interiors, and still lifes. At the core of Jean’s work is the experience of reception as the primary experience. Her paintings mediate connections to the real people, places, and objects presented to the viewer. This mediated experience among subject, artist, and viewer – the process of seeing, painting, presenting, viewing, receiving, and remembering – captures Jean’s project more than the paintings as objects themselves.

WEB SITE ART EXPLORATIONS
The Mind of Leonardo: The Universal Genius at Work. (Scout Report) The phrase “renaissance man” is bandied about a great deal these days, and by this point in history, few may remember what the phrase actually means. Leonardo da Vinci was just such a man, and his genius and his depth of mind are explored in this lovely exhibit offered by the Institute and Museum of the History of Science. Here, visitors can view some of his famous drawings, including those he did in the years before departing for Milan in 1482 and his artistic renderings of the nature of motion. Throughout the exhibit, visitors can read succinct and lucid descriptions of these works and the principles they are meant to illustrate. One particularly engrossing section is dedicated to the sciences of painting. It should not be missed, nor should the rest of this glorious exploration of but a few small morsels of da Vinci’s works. Accordingly, the site is also available in Italian. Visit This Site.
