Class: Cine-Sketch The Art Of Storyboarding (Youth Media)(Adult)

Learn the art and design of the visual medium known as the storyboard! Used in all forms of media production from animation, to digital media. Storyboarding is essential in the formation and communication of sequential visual ideas.
The class will use provided scripts to storyboarding short sequences. Students will learn to use proper aspect ratios, numbering, camera moves as well as the difference between a production board and a presentation board .
Workshop: Spotlight on Still Life - Part 1

Part 1 is a demonstration session. Watch John as he works quickly through a simple still life painting using the Alla Prima technique, which means, "At the first." This is a good time to ask lots of questions about process, theory and materials. See how it’s done and get fired up for the optional workshop.
Workshop: Spotlight on Still Life - Part 2

Part 2 This is a workshop session. Having watched John work through his painting, now its time to try it yourself. Students will work from still life in class, using the alla prima technique, which means, "At the first." A painting is finished fairly quickly working wet into wet. Students will move through the painting process of drawing, wash in, form painting and final details. Students will learn tips to develop speed and accuracy. John will be there for individual easel side critiques.
John Holdway has been in numerous single and group exhibitions regionally and across the country including Beauty Revisited at Mt Scott Art Center in Portland, 15x15 at the Decker Gallery in Baltimore and the Eugene Mayor's Art Show. He is represented at Opus6ix Gallery in Eugene and Bella Perla Gallery in Portland. He earned a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Workshop: Paint an Expressionist Landscape - Outdoors!

We will meet at DIVA and then head out to a scenic location. We will draw first, and then paint. Learn to simplify and stylize landscape forms and electrify the surface with color and passion!
What to bring: Lunch, acrylic paints, a few different size brushes, a small table (like a TV table) to work off of, anything else that you like to have to paint.
Instructor will provide: A gessoed 16x20 board to paint on, rags, cans for water, boards for palettes, easels, lots of fun painting! Suitable for beginning and intermediate painting students, though some drawing experience helps. Location to be sent out to those who sign up.
Rich Klopfer, a locally based artist, has exhibited his painting and sculpture in solo shows across the U.S. His work has been featured in quARTerly and on exhibit at Gunnar Nordstrom Fine Arts in Kirkland WA.
Workshop: Non-Adhesive Book Binding

Learn the fundamentals of making books by hand. This one-day workshop will give you basic information about tools, materials and techniques. You’ll construct several different non-adhesive bindings and leave with basic knowledge to move onto more complex projects. No experience is necessary.
Required Materials List: Bone folder; scalpel, mat knife or x-acto knife; ruler; pencil; awl; self-healing cutting mat; plastic triangle; bookbinder’s needle #18.
Karen Sosa is a bookbinder and book conservator who has worked for the past 10 years with numerous conservators, and at several libraries, including the University of California, Berkeley and the Smithsonian Institution Libraries. She recently relocated to Eugene.
